Food & Fitness Discussion

MyFitnessPal is my favorite.  I have tried so many different diets and they just did not work for me.  Tracking my food has really helped me to realize that it's more than just calories.  You have to look at your sugar intake, carbohydrates, protein, fats, etc.  They are all important especially when you are trying to lose weight or maintain.  As of September 12, 2013, I have consistently logged on everyday.  I make sure to log my exercise calories based off my Garmin or Polar and I scan as many foods as possible into the site because what others put may not be correct.  It's a great guide to follow and it does require discipline.  This site allows you to add foods, make recipes, save your favorite foods, log your exercise points, assist you in calculating your values, log your weight loss and other measurements, there is even a blog on here and forums that are very helpful.  Overall, I highly recommend you use this as a tool.  Remember 1200 calories is the bare minimum and if you are working out consistently, you should not be on a 1200 calories a day diet.  Make sure you are fueling your body or you will go into starvation mode.

Workouts! One of my favorite topics.  I love CrossFit and Boot Camp because it's always a different workout each time I go.  I workout about 6-7x a week which includes my 3 days of running.  I try my best to incorporate yoga or some other type of stretching technique because it's important to maintain your flexibility.  Cross training is very important when you are a runner and cardio is important when you are only lifting weights.  You need to include both rather it is doing cardio on a machine such as the elliptical, StairMaster, bike or treadmill.  I highly recommend that when doing weights for the first time, you ask for assistance.  You do not want to lifting incorrectly because you can cause injury.  I highly recommend group training classes, but sometimes you may need that private training.  I had a trainer for over a year and he would focus on my specific goals which worked out very well for me.  Now that I am much stronger and lighter in weight, I do not need that one on one training.  Oh before I forget, Zumba, Kickboxing, Boxing, Pilates, TRX, Spinning, Step Aerobics and Water Aerobics are all great forms of cardio.  Just get moving some way some how.  Remember there are people out there who wish they could trade places with us.  Don't just sit on the couch, get up and be active.  You are in control of your health.
